General platform of BiS

BiS is a socialist organisation open to people working in libraries and to
others with an interest in library issues

BiS believes that it is the objective of libraries to defend and further
develop democracy

by supporting freedom of speech and helping to guarantee the provision of
information as a base for the creation of fully informed public opinion and social
criticism

by being a publicly funded and democratically governed institution
developed in dialogue with patrons and the community

by reaching out to, promoting literacy amongst and mentoring primarily
those who are at risk of being socially excluded from information

by proactively offering information and literature which provides
alternative viewpoints, and is not easily accessible and serves as an important supplement to popular and widely available commercial sources.
